Swift Enters NBA Draft Pool; Maintains Amateur Status

Swift Named Third Team All-America by NABC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — LSU forward Stromile Swift received his first national honor Friday when the National Association of Basketball Coaches named the 6-9 sophomore a Third Team All-America selection.

Swift, a native of Shreveport, La., averaged more than 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocks during the regular season, led the Tigers to a 25-4 record and a Top 10 ranking at the end of the season after starting off ranked 129th in the Sagarin computer rankings.

On the NABC/Oldsmobile Division I All-America First Team were the recently-injured Kenyon Martin of Cincinnati, A.J. Guyton of Indiana, Chris Mihm of Texas, Chris Carrawell of Duke and Marcus Fizer of Iowa State.

On the Second Team were Scoonie Penn of Ohio State, Morris Peterson of Michigan State, Mark Madsen of Stanford, Shane Battier of Duke and Troy Murphy of Notre Dame.

Joining Swift on the Third Team were Mateen Cleaves of Michigan State, Etan Thomas of Syracure, Pepe Sanchez of Temple and Eduardo Najera of Oklahoma.
