Four Tigers Named to SEC Academic Honor Roll

BATON ROUGE — Three current and one former LSU men’s basketball players were named to the 2000 Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Academic Honor Roll announced Monday by league Commissioner Roy Kramer.

LSU and Vanderbilt topped the list of 15 with four student-athletes each on the academic roster.

Making the list were Brian Beshara, a 3.666 junior majoring in Finance; Collis Temple III, a 3.288 GPA sophomore majoring in General Business and Jack Warner, a 3.127 GPA junior majoring in Mass Communication. Former player Jeremy Comeaux, who left the team prior to the season because of injury, also made the team with a 3.26 GPA.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year (two semesters or three quarters) or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in terms of academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester or 36 quarter hours toward a degree.

Temple’s father, Collis, also was a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll when he played at LSU in 1973.

The Tigers, the SEC Western Division and regular season overall SEC Champions, will play their first-round game in the SEC Tournament beginning on Friday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, at 2:15 p.m. CST against either Vanderbilt or Mississippi State.
