BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Marie Ferdinand along with Georgia’s Coco Miller have been named Co-Players of the Week in the Southeastern Conference, the league office announced on Monday.
The honor is the fourth of the year for LSU as Katrina Hibbert has won the award twice and April Brown one time. The award for Ferdinand is the first of her career.
Ferdinand, a junior from Miami, Fla., averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.0 steal and 4.5 steals in LSU’s wins over Florida and South Carolina last week. Ferdinand played 79 of a possible 80 minutes during the week.
Ferdinand opened the week with 21 points, including 13 in the second half, in LSU’s 71-66 win over Florida. She also had seven rebounds, five steals and three assists against the Lady Gators.
On Sunday, Ferdinand scored 20 points to go with six assists and five steals as LSU won its school-record 11th SEC game with a 70-55 victory over South Carolina.
For the year, Ferdinand ranks second in the SEC with 17.8 points a contest and she’s first in steals with 2.8 a game and fourth in assists with a 5.3 average. Ferdinand has scored 20 or more points in five of LSU’s last six games.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Friday at 8:30 p.m. CT when they face the winner of the South Carolina-Vanderbilt game in the second round of the SEC Tournament.
