TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – – The 24th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team will finish its two game tour of Florida Monday afternoon as the Lady Tigers face No. 19 Florida State.
“This is a big match for our team,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “We played well yesterday against Florida and I hope that the team will be able to have the same fire and determination against Florida State.”
The Lady Tigers have a 7-2 record this season with their losses coming against Mississippi State and Florida.
Mississippi State was victorious over LSU, 6-3, in the Lady Tigers’ fifth match of the season in Baton Rouge. LSU fell to fourth-ranked Florida, 7-2, on Saturday in Gainesville, Fla.
In the loss to Florida, the Lady Tigers forced the Gators to play doubles at home for the first time since 1994. During the past six seasons, Florida had defeated every Southeastern Conference opponent in singles play while playing at home in the Scott Linder Tennis Stadium until Saturday against the Lady Tigers.
“We did and outstanding job against Florida,” Minnis said. “But we can’t dwell on that too much, because we lost the match and we play a very tough team tomorrow.”
The Seminoles lost to Vanderbilt, 8-1, and Florida, 5-1, for their two losses of the season. In Florida State’s previous match, the Seminoles were victorious over Southern Mississippi by the final score of 6-3.
Monday’s matchup between the 24th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers and the 19th-ranked Florida State Seminoles will begin at 2 p.m. CST in Tallahassee, Fla.
