COLUMBIA, S.C. — The 15th-ranked LSU men’s basketball team came back from 13 points down in the second half to beat South Carolina, 64-59, and tie Auburn for the Southeastern Conference Western Division lead Wednesday night in Columbia, S.C.
Torris Bright hit 4-of-10 three pointers to score 17 points while adding three steals to lead the Tigers.
LSU improved to 22-4 on the season and 9-4 in conference play. The Tigers capitalized on Auburn’s loss to Alabama Tuesday night in Tuscaloosa to tie for the division lead with three games left to play including a showdown with the Tigers on March 1 in Auburn.
LSU won its six-straight overall and fourth consecutive SEC road game, the most since 1991-92 when Dale Brown‘s Tigers won five straight on the road.
South Carolina trailed LSU by one point at halftime, but then opened up to a 13 point lead. However, LSU then went on a 12-point run and were right back in the game.
LSU was held to only 19 of 54 shooting from the field including 7 of 23 from three-point range. However, South Carolina only shot 22 of 62 from the field and only 6 of 35 from beyond the arc.
The Tigers dominated the boards as Jabari Smith and Stromile Swift each registered double doubles. Smith had 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Swift had 11 of each.
LSU returns to action Saturday at 4 p.m. against Mississippi State. Please note that this time is a change from the origial schedule.
