GAINESVILLE, Fla. – – The 24th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team will take on the fourth-ranked Florida Gators Friday in Gainesville, Fla. The Lady Tigers are 7-1 on the season and 0-1 in Southeastern Conference play, while Florida is 4-0 and 1-0.
“Florida is definitely one of the best teams in the nation right now,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “It is even tougher to play them on their home courts, but we have a really good team this year, and I believe that it will be a close match.”
LSU’s seven wins this season came against Southern (6-0), Centenary (6-0), West Florida (8-1), Southeastern (6-0), Texas A&M (5-4), Houston (7-2), and Harvard (8-1). The Lady Tiger’s lone loss was to Mississippi State by the score of 6-3.
This weekend marks the first road trip of the regular season for the Lady Tigers. After Friday’s match against Florida, LSU travels to Tallahassee, Fla., for a challenge with Florida State on Monday.
“This is a huge weekend for us,” Minnis said. “We’re going to be on the road for the first time in awhile, and it will be interesting to see how the team responds.”
Last season the Florida Gators were victorious over the Lady Tigers, 8-1, in Baton Rouge. LSU is 0-22 all-time against Florida.
Saturday’s match between No. 24 LSU and No. 4 Florida will begin at noon in Gainesville, Fla., at the Scott Linder Tennis Stadium.
