PONTE VERDA, Fla. — The LSU men’s golf team shot a final round 14-over par 302 to finish the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in 10th place Tuesday afternoon at Ponte Verda, Florida’s Sawgrass Country Club.
Florida, which won its SunTrust Gator Invitational last week, won the team championship with a team total of 871, good for 7-over par. North Florida, the tournament host, finished second with a three-round total of 12-over 876 while Northwestern finished third with a 881, 12-over.
The Tigers were led by two golfers in the top 20, including Alan Morgan, whose 2-over par performance earned a tie for seventh-place honors. Transfer Craig Taylor finished in a tie for 17th with a 6-over 222.
Jeremy Wilkinson (41st), John Humphries (52nd), and Mike Vallillo (72nd) also competed for the Tigers in the two day event.
North Florida’s David Bennett overcame a one-stroke lead in the final round to earn the individual title, defeating Florida’s Camilo Benedetti in a playoff.
LSU returns to action March 7-8 in the Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla., at the Golden Eagle Country Club.
