Women’s Tennis Tries To Keep Streak Alive

BATON ROUGE – – The LSU women’s tennis team will put a 13-match home winning streak versus non-conference opponents on the line Saturday as they take on Houston. The Houston Cougars are undefeated this season and have a 2-0 record.

“After our big win against Texas A&M last week, we need to continue to build up momentum for the matches this weekend,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “Both Houston and Harvard are very good teams, and we’re going to need some better play out of our singles teams to beat them.”

The 26th-ranked Lady Tigers have a 5-1 overall record, and an 0-1 mark in the Southeastern Conference. LSU split its previous two matches last week with a loss to Mississippi State, 6-3, on Saturday, and a come-from-behind victory on Sunday against Texas A&M, 5-4.

LSU will be led by sophomore Bruna Colosio and senior captain Ana Paula Mores. Colosio is currently the 12th-ranked singles player in the nation and has a 17-5 record on the year. Mores is No. 70 and has a 17-4 record. Mores has been a key component of the Lady Tigers’ 5-1 record by winning her last seven matches.

“Ana has been on a roll lately,” Minnis said. “She’s playing with a lot of heart and emotion right now, and hopefully she’ll be able to keep it up for the rest of the season.”

The Lady Tigers will host the Houston Cougars Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
