Men’s Tennis Remains No. 1

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team held on to it’s No. 1 national ranking after not competing in any matches in the past week.

LSU, 3-0 overall on the season, has been ranked No. 1 for two consecutive weeks now. It is the first time since the 1998 season the team has been No. 1 and only the third time overall.

“We don’t have any time to look at the polls,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “We are spending all of our time preparing for the National Indoor (Championships). It is taking our total focus right now.”

The Tigers, who have not seen action since a January 30 win over New Orleans, will head to Louisville, Ky., for the Rolex National Indoor Championships to be held next week.

“It is an honor to go to the Indoors as the No. 1 ranked team, but it is only an honor,” said Brown. “We still have to play the game and beat our opponents. We are more concerned about the rankings at the end of the season than the ones right now.”

LSU paced the way for the Southeastern Conference, who placed all 12 teams in the rankings, including eight in the top 25. The conference will have six teams in the draw at National Indoors.
