BATON ROUGE — LSU’s sophomore women’s tennis player, Bruna Colosio, jumped up eight spots to No. 12 Wednesday in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s rankings.
Colosio is 4-0 in dual matches this season, and has helped lead the 26th-ranked Lady Tigers to a 5-1 overall record.
“Bruna is playing really good tennis right now,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “She matured some over the off season which has helped her to stay consistent and beat some talented players that would have normally given her more trouble.”
The Lady Tiger’s doubles team comprised of Colosio and senior captain Ana Paula Mores is ranked No. 16 in the nation. The duo improved upon their previous ranking of No. 20, but still haven’t exceeded their highest-ranking ever. After the 1998-99 season the pair was ranked-15th in the nation.
“When both Ana and Bruna are playing their style of tennis, they can be almost unbeatable as a doubles team,” Minnis said. “They just have to do a better job of staying focused by keeping up their level of intensity.”
LSU’s Mores is the 70th-ranked singles player in the nation. She is currently on a seven-match winning streak, and will look to improve to eight wins in a row as the 26th-ranked Lady Tigers host Houston on Saturday.
The match between the LSU Lady Tigers and the No. 61 Houston Cougars will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 19 at “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
