Gymnastics Scores 195.775 on the Road

DENTON, Texas – – The LSU gymnastics team finished Saturday’s four-way meet with Oklahoma, Texas Woman’s University and Illinois-Chicago in second-place with 195.775 total points.

“It was a great meet and we certainly aren’t disappointed by any means,” said head coach D-D Breaux. “We took the opportunity in this meet to change our lineup and get some other athletes in. I am really pleased with our performance, and I would also like to give Oklahoma a lot of credit because they had a wonderful meet.”

The University of Oklahoma finished the meet with the most points by barely edging out the Lady Tigers with a score of 195.800. Texas Women’s University came in third with 193.275 points, and Illinois-Chicago was the fourth-place finisher with 192.400.

The Lady Tigers are now 8-2 on the season and followed up victories over two top-ranked teams with another strong performance in the four-way meet.

Leading the Lady Tigers was senior Abbey Burns. Burns finished second in the overall scoring competition with a score of 39.250 and led the team in both the uneven parallel bars and balance beam events. Burns scored an outstanding 9.925 on the uneven parallel bars and tied for second place overall in the balance beam with a score of 9.900.

Also performing well for the Lady Tigers were sophomore Marina Degtava and seniors: Stacy Wegener, Kim and Kerry Descalopoulis. the Descalopoulis sisters finished tied for second place in the overall vault competition with scores of 9.850.

Kim Descalopoulis and Wegener shared first place honors in the floor exercise by finishing with scores of 9.900, and Degtava had the second best performance of the night in the uneven parallel bars with a 9.925.
