GAINESVILLE, FLA.–The LSU men’s golf team finished up the first day of the 2000 SunTrust Gator Invitational in third place overall after a two-round total of 558, 2-under par.
The overall team leader after day one of the tournament is host Florida, which shot an eye-opening team total of 20-under par 558. They are followed by North Florida, 14 strokes back at 554, good for 6-under.
Leading the way individually is Ben Banks of Florida, who shot a two-round total of 10-under-par 130.
LSU’s top finisher of the first day was Alan Morgan, who stands in a tie for 14th place overall after carding rounds of 70 and 68 to bring him to 2-under for the tournament (138).
Also contributing for the Tigers were John Humphries, who is currently tied for 18th position overall at 1-under (139), Jeremy Wilkinson, who at 2-over goes into the final day tied for 31st position, and Craig Taylor, who shot 3-over (143) to place himself in a tie for 39th overall. Mike Vallillo shot 5-over 145 to tie for 47th position overall with 1-round to play.
The Tigers will wrap up play tomorrow at the SunTrust Invitational, with the final 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m.
