Swimming Set to Take on Florida State

BATON ROUGE – – The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will both take on the Florida State Seminoles Saturday morning in the LSU Natatorium at 11 a.m.

“This is a huge meet for our team,” said head coach Rick Meador. “It is our last dual meet of the season, and we need to pick up some momentum before we head to the SEC Championships.”

The 24th-ranked Lady Tigers are 7-2 on the season and are coming off of a huge win at Rice, 140-121. Sophomore Mandy Leach won three events against Rice and set the pool record in the 200-yard freestyle competition with a time of 1:51.78. She was also victorious in both the 50 and 500-yard freestyle events for LSU.

The LSU men’s swimming and diving team is ranked 19th in the nation and have a 5-2 record this season. The Tigers are coming off of a heartbreaking loss in College Station, Texas, where Texas A&M held on for a 129-114 victory.

The Tigers will face a talented Florida State team Saturday. The 22nd-ranked Seminoles have a 6-3 overall record this season with their three losses coming against No. 3 Auburn, No. 12 Florida, and No. 26 North Carolina State. In last year’s meeting Florida State defeated the Tigers, 155-85, in Tallahassee, Fla.

“This Florida State team is really good,” Meador said. “They are solid in all of the events, and have been swimming well all season. It is going to an outstanding college swimming and diving meet on Saturday.”

The Florida State women have a 7-2 record this season, but aren’t nationally ranked. Their two losses came against No. 6 Auburn and No. 14 Minnesota. The Lady Tigers beat the Seminoles last year by the final score of 143-99.

The dual meet between the LSU Tigers and the Florida State Seminoles will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 5 in the LSU Natatorium.
