BATON ROUGE — LSU guard Marie Ferdinand, who sparked LSU to a come-from-behind victory Saturday against Arkansas, was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Women’s College Basketball Player of the Week it was announced Monday.

The Tigers, 19-4 and 8-2 in the SEC, play host to Vanderbilt Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Maravich Assembly Center.

Ferdinand, a junior from Miami, averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists as LSU split games with Alabama and Arkansas last week. She scored 24 points, including 16 in the second half in LSU’s 68-51 win over Arkansas.

The 24 points was the second-highest total of her career and one point shy of tying a career-high. The nine rebounds against the LadyBacks was a season high. Ferdinand had 21 points in the 72-68 loss to Alabama.

For the week, she connected on 17-of-33 from the field (51.5 percent) and 10-of-11 from the free throw line (90.9 percent).
