Minnis’ Lady Tigers Host Mississippi State

BATON ROUGE – – The 23rd-ranked LSU women’s tennis team opens Southeastern Conference play Saturday as the Lady Tigers host the 33rd-ranked Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs.

“This is a very big weekend for us,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “We are going up against two top-quality teams in Mississippi State and Texas A&M. Our team is just anxious to get this part of the season underway.”

LSU has a 4-0 record this season, while Mississippi State is 2-1. The Lady Tigers opened the season with victories over Southern, Centenary, West Florida, and Southeastern Louisiana.

Mississippi State lost its previous match to 20th-ranked South Alabama by the score of 7-2. The Lady Bulldogs won their opening two matches against Southern Miss. and No. 46 Tulane. Mississippi State won both matches, 8-1.

“The team has been playing awesome tennis lately,” Minnis said. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to keep up the good play and get two big wins this weekend.”

Last season in Starkville, Miss., the Lady Bulldogs upset the higher-ranked Lady Tigers, 5-1. The matchup was also the opening SEC competition for either team in 1999.

The 23rd-ranked LSU Lady Tigers will host the 33rd-ranked Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs at noon, Saturday, February 12 in “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
