BATON ROUGE – – The 4-0 Lady Tiger tennis team remained ranked 23rd in the nation Wednesday as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s latest rankings were released.
“I am extremely proud of the team and the way that they are playing right now,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “It is an honor to be ranked No. 23 in the nation, but we have a tough schedule ahead of us beginning this weekend with both No. 33 Mississippi State and No. 37 Texas A&M coming into town.”
LSU opened the 2000 season with an undefeated record as the Lady Tigers beat Southern (6-0), Centenary (6-0), West Florida (8-1), and Southeastern Louisiana (6-0).
LSU is one of eight Southeastern Conference teams that are ranked among the Top 25 in the nation. Florida (No. 2), Georgia (No. 4), Ole Miss (No. 6), South Carolina (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 14), Vanderbilt (No. 16), and Kentucky (Tied at No. 21) are the other SEC teams in the Top 25.
The 23rd-ranked Lady Tigers will next be in action Saturday, Feb. 12 as they host the No. 33 Mississippi State Bulldogs at noon in LSU’s “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
