Colosio Advances at Indoor Championships

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – – LSU’s sophomore women’s tennis player, Bruna Colosio, advanced to the second round of the Rolex Intercollegiate Indoor Championships Thursday as she defeated Ohio State’s Kristy Dascoli, 6-3, 7-5.

“This was a huge win for Bruna,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “The Top 32 players in the nation are competing here at the ITA Indoor Championships, and this tournament will help Bruna improve even more as she gains experience against better players.”

The 20th-ranked Colosio will face Kathy Sell of Duke Friday afternoon in the second round of the ITA Indoor Championships. Sell was victorious over the seventh-seeded Celeste Frey of Ole Miss, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round.

Colosio’s win over Dascoli marked her second victory over Ohio State’s No. 1 singles player, as Colosio defeated Dascoli last season in the opening round of the NCAA team championships in Malibu, Calif., 6-4, 6-3. Colosio has won 12 straight singles matches and has a 14-4 record on the year.

The match between LSU’s 20th-ranked Bruna Colosio and Duke’s 31st-ranked Kathy Sell will take place Friday afternoon in the second round of the Rolex ITA Indoor Championships.

The No. 23 Lady Tigers will next be in action Saturday, February 12 as they look to improve their record to 5-0 on the season against SEC rival Mississippi State at noon in “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
