Swift, Hibbert Named SEC Players of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU swept the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors this week as Katrina Hibbert and Stromile Swift were both named co-players of the week for their respective sports, the league announced on Monday.

Hibbert shared the women’s award with Kara Lawson of Tennessee, while Swift shared the honor with Vincent Yarbrough of Tennessee.

The award is the second of the year for both players as Hibbert shared the award with teammate April Brown after LSU’s upset win over second-ranked Georgia on Dec. 2. Swift, who is the first LSU player to win the award twice in the same season since Shaquille O’Neal did it in 1992, was given the honor after leading the Tigers to the tournament title at the Hawaii Pacific Thanksgiving Classic.

For the week, Hibbert averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and she connected on 6-of-13 shots from 3-point range in leading the Lady Tigers to a pair of wins over New Orleans and 20th-ranked Mississippi State. Hibbert also scored the 1,500th point of her career on Sunday against Mississippi State as she became just the eighth player in school history to reach the milestone.

Hibbert opened the week with 15 points and 10 rebounds against UNO for her fourth double double of the season. She then followed that with 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in LSU’s 64-58 win over Mississippi State. The win over the Lady Bulldogs was LSU’s fifth straight in the SEC, four of which have come on the road.

Swift averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots in leading LSU to wins over Arkansas and fourth-ranked Arizona. Swift scored 29 points, the second-highest total of his career, in LSU’s 86-60 win over Arizona. Swift also added nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals in the win over Arizona.

Swift opened the week with 16 points and five rebounds in LSU’s 96-75 win over Arkansas.
