LEXINGTON, Ky. — The LSU swimming and diving teams will take on SEC rival Kentucky in the Lancaster Aquatic Center Friday afternoon. The 19th ranked Tigers and No. 24 Lady Tigers are both coming into the SEC matchup with undefeated records. The women are 5-0, 2-0, while the men are 4-0, 1-0.
“This Kentucky meet is an important conference challenge for both of our teams,” said head coach Rick Meador. “The SEC is an extremely competitive conference, and it is necessary to get off to a good start this year.”
The Kentucky women’s team is 5-0 on the season, 3-0 in conference play and ranked 21st in the nation. In the Wildcats last meet, the women defeated both South Carolina and Arkansas by the exact same score, 124-102.
Meanwhile the Wildcat men’s team is 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the SEC this season, and is coming off of a huge win against South Carolina by the score of 137-103.
“Kentucky has a really good team,” Meador said. “Their women’s squad is nationally ranked. They have been swimming very well this season, so this is definitely going to be a hard-fought contest.”
The Lady Tigers last meet was against Washington State University on a neutral site in Colorado where LSU defeated the Cougars 53-39. The Tigers won by the score of 137-98 in their previous meet with Notre Dame to up its to record to 4-0.
“I expect our team to be pumped up for this meet”, Meador added. “Hopefully we’ll perform up to the best of our ability and come home with a couple more wins under our belt.”
In last year’s SEC battle between the Tigers and Wildcats, the teams split the meet as Kentucky’s women won 135-105 and LSU’s men were victorious 143-100.
The meet between the LSU Tigers and the Kentucky Wildcats will begin at 4 p.m. in Lexington at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
