BATON ROUGE – – The 22nd ranked LSU women’s tennis team will begin the 2000 season Saturday by playing host to both Centenary and Southern in a season opening doubleheader.
“We are really looking forward to getting the season started,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “The team is coming off of a good fall season, the girls have all improved their game, and they are definitely excited about getting the season underway.”
Saturday’s matches will also be the first competition of the spring for Southern and Centenary. The Lady Tigers defeated both of these teams during the 1999 season. LSU won its match against Southern last February, 6-0, and topped Centenary 9-0 for its second win of last season.
The Lady Tigers have an all-time 6-0 record against Southern. LSU is also undefeated versus Centenary as the Lady Tigers will try to make it 13 straight victories against Centenary on Saturday.
LSU’s men and women’s tennis teams will both take on Southern at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The Tiger men’s team will then face Centenary at noon. The Lady Tiger’s match with Centenary will begin as soon as the men’s match is over. All of Saturday’s matches will take place at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium and the courts adjacent to it.
