BATON ROUGE — LSU softball third baseman Ashlee Ducote was drafted by the Akron (Ohio) Racers as the first pick in the third round during the recent Women’s Pro Softball League Senior Draft.
Ducote, the ninth pick overall, will begin her senior season at LSU in 2000. Ducote was named All-America her Junior season where she posted a .377 batting average. Ducote was also named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team, All-Southeastern Conference First Team, the NFCA All-South Region First Team and the All-Louisiana First Team in 1999.
“We are excited that Ashlee was drafted,” said LSU Head Coach Glenn Moore. “She is an exceptional player and deserves the chance to play professionally. We are also excited about the recognition our young program here at LSU is getting. Ashlee is the second player to be drafted from LSU in the team’s four year tenure.”
Also drafted Saturday in the Elite/Supplemental Draft was former LSU softball player Jodi Otten. Otten was drafted by the Florida Wahoos, which will be based in Plant City, Fla.
Otten formerly played for the Durham Dragons, which dissolved after the revamping of the WPSL. Otten is now the head coach at Bishop Sullivan High School in Baton Rouge.
The WPSL season runs from June through August and includes 64 league games, 12 regular-season exhibition games, a best-of-three WPSL Championship Series and two season-ending all-star exhibitions.
