ATHENS, Ga. — Tom Hand swept the singles and doubles draws of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Region III Championships this weekend at the University of Georgia.
Hand, seeded fourth, dropped only one set in six matches en route to the tournament title, his third of the fall.
In the final on Sunday, he upset 10th-ranked and second-seeded Justin O’Neal 6-2, 7-5.
“Tom played great tennis all week,” said LSU coach Jeff Brown. “He has proven this fall that he is one of the elite college tennis players in the country.”
Later in the day, Hand teamed with Dan Kiernan to win the doubles title. The duo beat sixth-seeded Capriati-Tintori of South Florida 8-6 in the semifinal.
They then came back from a set down to beat Mississippi State’s McDonald-Soto 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the final.
