AUBURN, Ala. With second place in the Southeastern Conference Western Division on the line, the Auburn volleyball team swept LSU 15-11, 15-7, 15-0, in Auburn on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, LSU finishes the regular season 17-14 with a 7-8 SEC record. Auburn improved to 17-10 and 8-7 in the conference.
Auburn jumped out to quick starts in each of the three games and held off late LSU rallies twice to win games.
In game one, LSU outhit the home-standing Tigers .278 to .268 but was unable to win the game. Jaunelle Hamilton paced the Auburn attack with eight kills en route to a .412 attack percentage. LSU was led by Meagan Davis’ five kills.
Game two went much like game one with the statistics close, but Auburn taking the game. LSU’s 10 hitting errors in the game proved to be the difference. Brooke McCarley led Auburn with seven kills in the game.
With the momentum on their side, Auburn dominated game three and shut the Tigers out.
LSU finishes the season tied for third in the SEC West. The Tigers will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., next weekend for the SEC Tournament.
