Volleyball Rallies to Beat Alabama, 3-2

Alabama Defeats Slumping Volleyball, 3-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. The LSU volleyball team ran into a determined Alabama squad on Friday night in Tuscaloosa and fell 15-11, 10-15, 15-0, 15-3 to the Crimson Tide.

The loss dropped LSU to 17-13 overall and 7-7 in the Southeastern Conference. Alabama improved to an identical pair of records. The two teams are now tied for second in the SEC Western Division with Auburn.

In a match of streaks, Alabama put together 27 consecutive points between games three and four to send the Tigers home with a loss for the first time in four matches.

As game three began with the match tied 1-1, Alabama began its amazing run. The Crimson Tide blanked LSU in game three behind the strength of 14 kills and a .636 hitting percentage. The Tiger offense was unable to get on track in the game as it hit -.021 with only five kills.

Shelly Adamcik had five kills in the game, matching LSU’s team total. She added two blocks to spark the Tide defense.

With the momentum clearly in its favor, Alabama began game four just as it left game three. The Tide sprinted to a 12-0 lead and cruised to the victory.

The match began in opposite fashion from the way it finished. The Tigers jumped to a 10-1 lead in game one and seemed ready to steal one in Tuscaloosa. However homestanding Tide came roaring back to take a 14-10 lead and go on to win the game.

Michelle Green led the Alabama charge with six kills to only one error in 10 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. LSU was led by Lyndsey Benson who had four kills.

LSU fought back in game two in taking an early 10-2 lead. Once again, the Crimson Tide rallied, but the Tigers held off the home team to take the game and knot the match at one game a piece.
