Johnson Becomes Lady Tigers’ Third Signee

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s basketball team picked up its third early signee on Friday as Temeka Johnson, one of the nation’s top high school point guards, inked with the Lady Tigers, coach Sue Gunter announced.

Johnson, from Bonnabel High School in New Orleans, joins fellow New Orleans natives Doneeka and Roneeka Hodges as LSU’s three early signees thus far.

“Temeka is one of those quality point guards that you don’t come across very often,” Gunter said. “She’s very smart and very bright and her ability to control the game both offensively and defensively is outstanding.

“She has an outstanding knowledge of the game which is a huge requirement for being a point guard.”

Johnson is a three-time first team all-state point guard as well as a three-time all-New Orleans Metro selection. Last year, Johnson averaged 23 points and nine assists.

“The New Orleans area was very good to us this year,” Gunter said. “To get three quality players out of New Orleans is really a tribute to coach (Pokey) Chatman. All three players that we signed from New Orleans are outstanding.”
