BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s basketball team received its highest pre-season ranking of the season on Thursday as Sports Illustrated tabbed the Lady Tigers as the 10th-ranked team in the nation in their College Basketball Preview Issue.
The No. 10 ranking by Sports Illustrated tops that of the No. 13 pre-season ranking by the Associated Press. LSU is also ranked No. 14 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll.
“I think we need to be cautious not to get too carried away with our rankings,” LSU coach Sue Gunter said. “It is, however, a compliment to the program.”
Georgia is ranked No. 1 in the poll, followed by Connecticut, Tennessee, UCLA, and Rutgers at No. 5. The bottom half of the top 10 has Iowa State at No. 6, followed by Louisiana Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame and LSU.
