Colosio Wins ITA SW Regional Championship

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – – Lady Tiger tennis player Bruna Colosio breezed through the ITA Southwest Regional Tournament this weekend, and culminated the event by defeating Baylor’s Jahnavi Parekh 6-1, 6-1 on Monday .

“Bruna played great tennis this weekend,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “She was hitting the ball extremely well, she had good touch on her shots, and that put a lot of pressure on her opponents. This was a huge tournament for both the team and for Bruna.”

Colosio, the 30th ranked player in the nation, won six of her eight matches easily in two sets, including the championship match. The tournament consisted of the best collegiate players in the Southwest Region and included numerous participants ranked in the top 100.

The toughest match of the tournament for Colosio came in the semifinal round where she faced Michelle Faucher of Texas. The 29th-ranked Faucher took Colosio to three sets for only the second time in the tournament. The match ended in a vigorous 9-7 tiebreaker in which Colosio pulled off an impressive 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(7) upset over Faucher.

Colosio who was the 3rd seed in the event, defeated many of the top players in the nation throughout the tournament including two women ranked in the top-50. She was victorious over Tulane’s Anna Monhartova who is No. 45 and the 28th ranked Faucher.
