Football Practices with Interim Coach

BATON ROUGE–The LSU football team practiced for the first time Tuesday under the new interim head coach Hal Hunter. Practice was brief, lasting only 45 minutes.

The team practiced in shoulder pads and worked on regrouping following the weekend’s events.

Tuesday’s practice was much like a Monday practice, short and abbreviated to get the players back into the flow of things. Hunter said that the players have good attitudes, have been responsive and showed him enthusiasm at practice.

“In this situation, I think we need to approach things very enthusiastically,” said Hunter. “We talked with the players about mutual respect, and that is one thing that the assistant coaches and players have had for each other. That is what you draw upon at this time. The relationships that you have established with the players over the last three or four years are what you draw upon at these times to get through this.”

The team ran rushing and passing drills against the scout team to get a feel for the next game against Arkansas.

“We are going to focus this week to get healthy mentally, healthy physically, and get ready to go,” said Hunter.

Hunter said that he intends to give more players the opportunity to play in the game against Arkansas and practiced more of the players on offense and defense that usually would be part of the scout team on Tuesday.

The Tigers will not play this weekend but will return to the field on Friday, November 26, to face the Arkansas Razorbacks. The game will be televised on CBS at 1:30 p.m.
