Tennis Comes Up Short in Co-ed Championship

STANFORD, Calif. The LSU tennis team fell to Texas A&M 29-23 in the semifinal of the WingspanBank.com/World TeamTennis National Collegiate Tennis Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Texas A&M got out to a quick start and maintained its lead over the Tigers to earn the win and move into the final.

In the women’s doubles to open the match, the Aggies’ team of Nedorstova-Dingwall beat LSU’s 15th-ranked team of Colosio-Mores 6-4.

The men’s singles followed with Texas A&M adding to its lead. Shoun Madden, ranked 12th, beat the Tigers Michal Chmela, ranked No. 7, 6-3.

Trailing 12-7, the 29th-ranked mens doubles team of Chmela-Kiernan closed the gap slightly with a 6-5 win over Madden-Jarin Skube.

However, Texas A&M all but clinched the match with a win in womens singles. No. 30 Bruna Colosio dropped her match 6-4 to push the Aggie lead to 23-17 heading into mixed doubles.

There, the Aggies put away the Tigers as Nedorstova-Madden beat Kiernan-Mores 6-3 for a final team margin of 29-23.

LSU will face South Carolina in the third-place match on Sunday while Texas A&M advances to play Duke for the championship.
