Second-Half Goals Seal Tigers’ Fate, 3-1

STILLWATER, Okla. – Behind two goals from Andrea Larson, the Oklahoma State women’s soccer team struck three times in the second half to defeat LSU 3-1 in Stillwater Friday night. The loss was LSU’s (4-8) fifth in a row.

“We played very hard tonight but we didn’t win the 50/50 balls and we had some great chances and could not finish,” said LSU head coach Greg Boggs.

LSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute when passes from Kara Dean and Melissa Shelton hit an overlapping Amanda Huntzinger who fired a rocket to the upper left corner of the net from 25 yards out.

The Tigers missed an opportunity early in the second half to take a commanding 2-0 lead when a shot by Ashley Mitnick ricocheted off the post and Oklahoma State goalkeeper Katharine Doud was able to grab the rebound.

The miss would be costly for the Tigers, as Larson put the Cowgirls on the board in the 59th minute, finishing a pass from Julie Harris in front of the net.

Larson broke a 1-1 tie with the game-winner in the 73rd minute, an unassisted effort beating Tiger goalkeeper Sara Krupa with a shot from 12 yards out.

Krupa stopped five shots on the evening for the Tigers, who were outshot 22-8 overall.

With the Tigers pressing offensively in an effort to tie the match, Oklahoma took advantage of a numbers-up situation and Andi Lute closed out the scoring in the 85th minute, finishing a pass from Mercy Morrical for the 3-1 lead.

LSU will try to snap its five-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon when the Tigers travel across state to Norman for a match with Oklahoma at 1 p.m. Oklahoma State beat Oklahoma 1-0 on Wednesday evening.
