BATON ROUGE — Both of LSU’s swimming and diving teams were voted among the top 25 programs in the nation Friday. In the pre-season poll conducted by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, the Tiger men’s team is ranked No. 18 in the country. The Lady Tigers will start the season as the No. 25 ranked team in the nation after receiving 24 votes, while the men received 120.
After the 1998-99 season, the men’s swimming and diving team finished the year 18th in the nation. The Tigers compiled a 9-3 dual record last season and finished No. 18 in the NCAA Championships. The women’s team also had a tremendous campaign in 1998-99. The Lady Tigers finished the year 11-2 in dual meets and finished the season ranked 26th.
The teams will kick off their season Friday, October 15 with the LSU Pentathlon. The event will consist of both men and women swimmers and divers competing against each other in five events. The LSU Pentathlon will be held in the LSU Natatorium at 3 p.m.
