TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The combination of Amy McIlhaney and Fernanda Tscumoto lost in its semifinal match of the SEC Fall Coaches Championship Sunday afternoon.
The team was defeated by Florida’s Lehnoff/Scaringe 8-3. Lehnoff/Scaringe was seeded as the No. 1 doubles team in the tournament.
Earlier Sunday, LSU’s McIlhaney/Tscumoto upset Auburn’s No. 3 seeded doubles team of Kozlowski/Piski 8-5 in order to reach the semis.
They (McIlhaney/Tscumoto) played excellent tennis out there today, said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. I was extremely proud of the way they gave 110 percent in the quarterfinals to come away with a big victory, and once again in the semifinal when they gave it their all and never gave up.
In the B doubles draw, LSU’s Tami Botts and Erin Fedas won their second round match against Harper/McMeans from Vanderbilt 8-4. In the quarterfinals Botts/Fedas came up short against Mississippi’s No. 2 seeded team of Lord/Mattison. Lord/Mattison ended up reaching the championship match, but were upset by No. 4 seeded Buckley/Skeen from Kentucky 8-3.
On the singles side of the tournament, Tscumoto McIlhaney, and Mandy Rice all advanced to the consolation quarterfinals. Tscumoto, who had earlier defeated Arkansas’ Jeanette Banholzer 8-6 and Shannon Stafford from Kentucky 8-4, lost to Ole Miss’ 8th seeded Mira Radu 8-4 in her quarterfinal match.
McIlhaney defeated Vanderbilt’s Eloise Harper in the second round of the consolation bracket, but fell to Carolina Maurer from Auburn 8-4. LSU’s Rice lost to Auburn’s Weyla Chang in the quarterfinals 8-1 after earlier defeating Jenny Miller from Vanderbilt 8-6.
