CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The LSU men’s golf team finished up the first day at the Cavalier Classic today with an 11 over par 591 after 36 holes. The score puts the Tigers in ninth place out of 15 teams overall. The tournament concludes with 18 final holes to be played tomorrow.
Wake Forest leads the team competition with a 36 hole score of 11 under par. Tennessee and Virginia, the host team, are tied for second at two over.
In the individual competition, Jay Morgan of Wake Forest is in the lead going into the final day of competition after opening with a six under-par 136 for 36 holes. Close behind is Furman’s Kirk Satterfeild, at four under par, two strokes back.
The top LSU finisher was Alan Morgan, who finished the day tied in 12th place overall with a one over par 145, followed by seniors Jason Humphries and Jeremy Wilkinson, who both finished with a 3 over par 147, good to tie them both at 24th position. Michael Beckers is currently in 54th position with a nine over par 154, and senior Mike Vallillo currently resides in 59th position overall after an 11 over par 155.
Greg Jones and the Tigers will finish up the 54 hole format tournament tomorrow.
