Men’s Golf 14th at Ridges

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — The LSU men’s golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the fall season Sunday with a 14th place showing at the Ridges Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Oklahoma won the team title with a 54-hole score of 870, while preseason-No. 1 ranked Clemson finished sixth at 875. LSU finished at 909.

“This was a very strong field,” first-year coach Greg Jones said. “Our squad is forty percent freshmen and it showed. We needed to get the younger players some experience and we did.

“I think our experience here will be very beneficial to our team down the road.”

Individually, Max Harris of North Carolina was the medalist with a 54-hole total of 5-under par 211.

LSU’s top finish came from senior Jason Humphries, who tied for 31st overall with an 8-over par 224.

Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers were junior Alan Morgan in 38th place at 9-over 225, Jeremy Wilkinson in 47th place at 12-over 228, freshman Garrett Prather in 71st place at 21-over 273, and freshman John Humphries in 75th place at 23-over 239.

The Tigers return to action next weekend when they travel to the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va.
