Men’s Golf Open Season at Ridges

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — The LSU men’s golf team kicks off its fall season on Saturday when the Tigers take part in the 15-team Ridges Intercollegiate hosted by East Tennessee State here at the Ridges Golf Club.

The tournament, which features a 54-hole format with 36 holes coming on Saturday, will be the first for Tigers under new head coach Greg Jones, who came to LSU from South Alabama.

Among the teams in the field include six top 25 squads including top-ranked Clemson, 10th-ranked South Carolina, 13th-ranked North Carolina, 18th-ranked East Carolina, 20th-ranked North Carolina State, 22nd-ranked Auburn, and 24th-ranked TCU.

The Tigers will be led by senior Jeremy Wilkinson. Last year, Wilkinson led the Tigers with a 73.2 stroke average. Wilkinson also had five top 10 finishes to go along with 13 rounds of par or better a year ago.

“This is an outstanding field, especially for a tournament this early in the season,” Jones said. “We’ll look to Jeremy (Wilkinson) for a lot of senior leadership. He’s one of our best players and he’s been a starter for three years so he knows what it takes to be competitive at this level.”

The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Sunday.
