BATON ROUGE –The LSU softball team will host the second annual Shaw Group Collegiate Classic Tournament on October 16 and 17 at Tiger Park and the LSU Student Recreational Sports Complex fields.
Teams participating in the weekend’s events will be LSU, Northwestern State, Bossier Parish Community College, Southeastern Louisiana, McNeese State, Okaloosa Walton Community College, and William Carey College. The teams will compete in a round robin format on Saturday and bracket play on Sunday.
The tournament is presented by the Baton Rouge Sports Foundation with The Shaw Group as the title sponsor and Coca-Cola of Baton Rouge as the Gold Sponsor.
All day admission for the tournament will be $5 for adults. Children under 12 are free. Admission will be $4 with a donation at the gate to the Baton Rouge Food Bank for the holiday season food collection.
Tournament play will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with LSU and Southeastern Louisiana at Tiger Park, William Carey and Nicholls State at Recreational Field 2, and McNeese State and Louisiana College at Recreational Field 3. LSU will play again at 2:30, 4:30, and 6:30 on Saturday.
The LSU softball team and coaches will offer a free clinic at Tiger Park on Saturday, October 16 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Clinic participants will get instruction on pitching, catching, fielding, and hitting. An informational notebook and video from the clinic will be on sale at the tournament.
