Women’s Basketball Gets Boost with Commitments

BATON ROUGE — The LSU Lady Tiger basketball program recently received a huge boost when seniors Roneeka and Doneeka Hodges verbally committed to play basketball for LSU. The Hodges, who are twin sisters from O.P. Walker High School in New Orleans, are two of the top players in the nation and dazzled coaches and scouts during summer basketball camps.

Roneeka, who stands at 5-10, is the No. 9 rated player in the nation, according to The Women’s Basketball Journal, and projects to play either two-guard or small forward.

Doneeka, rated as the No. 11 player in America, is an inch shorter at 5-9 and can play either guard position.

According to The Women’s Basketball Journal’s All-Star Girls’ Report Newsletter, “LSU came up big when the Hodges twins announced that they would remain in the Bayou state. Roneeka and Doneeka should form a dazzling combination at LSU, perhaps equaling the success of the Miller twins at Georgia. The Hodges are both strong, selfless warriors who were both superb at the Nike camp.”

The Hodges sisters will officially sign with LSU during the NCAA’s early signing period in mid-November. The Lady Tiger basketball program would like to add two more signees, one of whom being a post player, to the 1999-2000 signing class.
