Women’s Doubles Duo Falls in Clay Court Semis

BALTIMORE LSUs 15th-ranked doubles team of sophomore Bruna Colosio and senior Ana Paula Mores proved that they can play with the nations best teams at the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships held in Baltimore, Md.

The Lady Tiger doubles pair defeated two teams to advance to the semifinals of the first leg of the collegiate tennis grand slam before losing to the fourth-ranked and second-seeded team of Zuzana Lesenarova and Katarina Valkyova of San Diego, 6-4, 6-2.

Colosio and Mores defeated the No. 45 team of Jahnavi Parekh and Katja Kovac of Baylor, 6-4, 6-2, in the quarterfinals and Pia-Lena Ander and Beau Jones of Boise State, 6-3, 7-6 (5), in the first round.

In singles play, 30th-ranked Colosio was defeated in the first round of the main draw by Ole Miss 16th-ranked Celeste Frey (the fourth seed), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and moved into the consolation bracket.

There, she beat South Alabamas qualifier Vanda Novakova, 7-5, 6-1, in the first round before being defeated by 51st-ranked Kovac in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-4.

By losing 9-8 (5) in the third round of the qualifying draw to South Alabamas Anke Roose, 78th-ranked Mores failed to qualify for the 36-player main draw. Earlier in the qualifying draw, she defeated prequalifier Eva Jimenez of Miami (Fla.), 8-2, and Colorados Nadine Kenzelman, 8-4.
