BATON ROUGE After leading the Lady Tigers to its fourth-consecutive NCAA postseason appearance in 1999, LSU sophomore Bruna Colosio and senior Ana Paula Mores received No. 30 and No. 78 national rankings, respectively, in the Intercollegiate Tennis Associations Preseason rankings released Monday, Sept. 13.
Colosio and Mores also paired together to receive a No. 15 doubles ranking after finishing last season ranked 39th nationally.
Colosio, from Cascaval, Brazil, is coming off a brilliant freshman season in 1999. Although she did not join the team until January, Colosio earned a spot as the Lady Tigers No. 1 singles player late in the season and moved to 45th in the national rankings.
She became only the second freshman in school history to earn an invitation to the NCAA Individual Championships last May, bowing out in three sets to Tulsa’s Anoushka Van Exel in the first round of the 64-player draw.
Mores, also a native of Brazil, has led the Lady Tigers to three postseason during her career at LSU. She will be the lone senior on the LSU team than fell to No. 8 Pepperdine in the second round of the NCAA Championships last season.
Mores and Colosio begin fall play by representing LSU in the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships, the first leg of the collegiate tennis grand slam. The qualifying tournament begins Sept. 21 in Baltimore, Md., while the main draw begins Sept. 23.
