SEVILLE, Spain – LSU track and field All-American Peta-Gaye Dowdie anchored the Jamaican 4×100 meter relay team to the Bronze medal at the World Championships in Seville, Spain Sunday afternoon.
The senior grabbed the stick on the anchor leg and held off American Gail Devers to secure the Bronze and keep the United States team off the medal stand. Former LSU All-American Cheryl Taplin ran the opening leg of the relay for the American squad.
The Bahamas won the Gold medal with a world-leading time of 41.92 seconds, followed by the French squad in 42.06 and the Jamaicans in 42.15. The American team finished fourth in 42.30.
Another current LSU All-American in action Sunday was NCAA 800 meter champion Claudine Williams who ran the third leg of the Jamaican 4×400 meter relay unit that placed fifth in a time of 3minutes 24.83 seconds. The Russian mile relay team edged the Americans at the line to claim the Gold medal.
With Sunday’s Bronze medal Dowdie wraps up an incredible summer on the international stage that saw her win the Jamaican 100 meter title, and a Bronze medal in the 100 and a Gold in the 4×100 meter dash at the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
