BATON ROUGE – LSU head men’s golf coach Britt Harrison has resigned his position, assistant athletic director Debbie Corum announced Tuesday.
Harrison has served as head mens golf coach at LSU for 12 years, joining the Tiger golf program in January of 1988.
“Britt has worked diligently to lead our mens golf program for a dozen years and he will be missed,” Corum said. “He was a fine representative of this program and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
“I developed a love for LSU the first day I stepped onto this campus and now look forward to becoming a fan and supporter of the University,” Harrison said. “My wife, Julie, and I have a great many close friends in Baton Rouge and we plan to continue to make this our home.
“Ive enjoyed the relationships with the players whom I have coached and I look forward to following their future success on and off the golf course,” Harrison said.
In 12 years under Harrison, LSU won 16 tournament titles and appeared in the NCAA Championships on seven occasions. LSU played in the NCAA Regionals in 10 of Harrisons 12 years at the school and Harrison guided the Tigers to six top-five finishes at the SEC Tournament, including runner-up finishes in both 1988 and 1989.
Harrisons 16 team tournament titles is the most of any coach in the history of the sport at LSU, surpassing the old mark of 15 held by Mike Barbato, who coached at LSU from 1948-60.
Corum said that a search will begin immediately to fill the position.
