Bright Signs with Men’s Basketball

BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s basketball coach John Brady announced on Monday that Slidell High School’s Torris Bright has signed national letter-of-intent papers to join the Tiger team for the 1999-2000 season.

Bright, a 6-4 guard, was a member of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 5A All-State first team after averaging 33.4 points and nine assists this past season for Coach Dan Ruffin’s Slidell team.

Bright, who had 70 points in one game this past season, is the first signee of the spring signing period for the Tigers, who signed 6-7 small forward Marcus Dupree of Biloxi (Miss.) High School in the fall signing period.

“We are extremely pleased with the signing of Torris Bright with LSU,” said Coach Brady. “With the ability to play the style of game he does, it will enable our basketball team to move in a direction which will benefit the abilities of the players we presently have and are recruiting. Torris can create shots not only for himself, but his teammates as well. He can pass the ball as efficiently and effectively as he can score it. Academically, he is qualified, and with this signing, we have taken another positive step in improving the basketball program at LSU.”
