Men’s Golf Inks Three Recruits

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s golf team has signed three recruits for the 1999-2000 season, head coach Britt Harrison announced Friday. Joining the Tigers next season are Cliff Dyer, from Slidell; Garrett Prather, from Crowley; and Mark Schultz, from Richardson, Texas.

“These are three excellent student-athletes,” Harrison said. “With the addition of these three young men, the future of LSU golf looks extremely promising.”

Dyer, from Slidell High School, won the 5A state championship earlier this year, finishing first out of 100 golfers with back-to-back rounds of 67 and 73. He has a long list of both athletic and academic achievements. “Cliff is a very hard worker, with a great swing and a competitive spirit,” Harrison said. “He has natural leadership qualities and is an excellent student.”

Prather, from Crowley Notre Dame, won the state junior championship earlier this year. An experienced golfer at both the state and national level, he was also the starting quarterback on his high school football team this fall.

“Garrett is a top-notch athlete,” Harrison said. “He will impact the Tigers’ success in the future and he may blossom into one of the best golfers on this team.”

Schultz, from Berkner High School, is the defending district champion in the highly competitive Dallas metropolitan area. Also an experienced player on the national level, he has played both football and basketball in high school.

“Mark is another outstanding all-around athlete,” Harrison said. “We’re excited to have him join our program.”

The Tigers return to the links on February 8-9 at the Bridges All-American Classic in Bay St. Louis, Miss.
