KNOXVILLE, TENN. — A sluggish front nine put the 10th-ranked LSU women’s golf team in a tie for seventh place after the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championships here Friday at the Cherokee Country Club.

LSU opened up on the par-35 front side on the par 71 course and struggled to get things going, posting a 14-over par on the first nine holes. But the Lady Tigers did rally strongly on the back nine, a par-36 layout, shooting four over as a team to finish up at 18-over par 302 on the team par 284 course.

The Lady Tigers are tied with the Swedish Junior National team at 302, 13 shots back of leader Arkansas, who posted a five-over 289. Ohio State is second at nine-over 293 and Kent State is third at 12-over 296.
