BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Seimone Augustus and Temeka Johnson, guards for the 15th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, were both unanimous selections as first-team All-Southeastern Conference, while teammate Doneeka Hodges was named to the second-team, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday.

LSU (22-6, 10-4 SEC) was the only team to post two players on the eight-member first-team and joined Tennessee as the only schools to have three players selected on the two teams.

Augustus, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, leads the Lady Tigers into this week’s SEC Tournament. The 6-1 guard is averaging 18.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and is shooting 51.4 percent from the field. She also averaged 20.4 points per game in the 14 SEC games, finishing third in the league in that category. Augustus scored in double figures in every conference game, including collecting a double double against Florida and Mississippi State.

Johnson, a senior from New Orleans, is averaging 12.9 points, 8.0 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game entering the tournament. The 5-3 point guard leads the SEC is assists and assist-to-turnover ratio and averaged a conference best 8.5 assists in the 14 SEC games. Johnson tallied five double doubles in league play and scored in double figures in the final six games of the regular season.

Hodges, a senior from New Orleans, is posting 14.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game entering the post season. The 5-9 guard also averaged 14.6 points per game in SEC games and connected on 34 three-pointers in league play. Hodges scored in double figures in all but three conference games and scored at least 20 points against Auburn, Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas.

Both Augustus and Johnson earned all-conference honors last season. Augustus was named to the second-team and earned Freshman of the Year honors, while Johnson earned honorable mention status. Hodges was named second-team All-SEC in 2002.

Arkansas’ Shameka Christon was name the Player of the Year and joined Auburn’s Le’Coe Willingham, Florida’s Vanessa Hayden, Georgia’s Christi Thomas, Mississippi State’s Tan White, Tennessee’s Shyra Ely and Augustus and Johnson on the first-team.

Pat Summitt, Tennessee’s head coach, earned Coach of the Year honors, while Ole Miss’ Armintie Price was the Freshman of the Year, Hayden was the Defensive Player o the Year and Florida teammate Bernice Mosby was the Sixth Woman of the Year.

The 25th SEC Tournament gets underway on Thursday with first round action in Nashville, Tenn., at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. LSU, which earned the No. 2 seed and a bye in the opening round, will begin its title defense on Friday at 2:30 p.m. CST against either No. 7 seed Ole Miss or No. 10 seed Alabama, who play Thursday.
