Zach Akenberger Season 2026
Zach Akenberger is a collegiate strength and conditioning coach with over a decade of experience working in Power Four football programs. He joined the LSU staff in January of 2026 as the Associate Head Football Strength and Conditioning Coach, and works with the football program on the development and implementation of comprehensive field and weight room training programs, position-specific development, and individualized athlete performance plans.
Prior to LSU, Akenberger spent several seasons at the University of Mississippi as Associate Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, contributing to program design, leadership and culture initiatives, quality control, and intern education. His coaching background also includes stops at the University of Florida as Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning and Mississippi State University as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Akenberger began his career as a graduate assistant at the University of Toledo and the University of Kentucky and completed internships at Bowling Green State University and Michigan State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree in Recreation Administration from the University of Toledo. He is certified as a CSCS and SCCC. He was a fullback at Bowling Green State University during his collegiate playing career.
Zach and his wife, Ally Akenberger, have two children, Jade and Rhett Akenberger.
