Mario Macaluso enters his eighth year working at LSU and his third season as a full-time member with the Performance Innovation department at Football Ops headed up by Jack Marucci.

Macaluso, a native of Birmingham, AL, started his career at LSU inside the personnel department at football, working in a student capacity. He moved into a transient role with the same department following his graduation in September of 2020 when he earned his degree in political communication. He worked as a volunteer until January of 2021.

Macaluso then moved into his role with performance innovation in August of 2021 and earned a full-time position in October of 2022.

In his current role, his job is to assist with football in the data and technology spaces. His tasks range from researching high school football data, breaking down opponent tendencies and pulling data to better provide the LSU coaches with game-needed information. Additionally, he helps implement VR/AI technology into how student-athletes can be trained and taught.

Macaluso’s mother and father – Brenda and Terry – both graduated from LSU and his brothers, Matteo and Giovanni, are graduates of the Naval Academy. Both still serving, Matteo will be a Naval Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer and Giovanni will be a Naval Pilot.

Macaluso was born and raised in Alabama before his family moved to Chapin, S.C., in 2010. Macaluso’s parents are from New Orleans, so even though he is not from Louisiana, he considers it home.
