Kynjee Cotton joined the LSU coaching staff in June of 2023 and serves as a senior analyst on the defensive side of the ball. Cotton previously served as defensive ends coach at Kennesaw State in 2022.

A native of Daphne, Alabama, Cotton coached defensive ends at Samford University for three seasons. In the 2021 spring season, Cotton helped develop Nelson Jordan to an All-SoCon defensive end after leading the team in tackles for loss (7.5) and sacks (4.0).

Prior to Samford, Cotton coached the defensive line at the University of West Georgia.

Cotton served two seasons as a quality control assistant at the University of North Carolina in 2016 and 2017. His other coaching stops have come at Birmingham-Southern and UAB, where he was a graduate assistant working with the defensive line in 2014.

Cotton broke into the college football coaching ranks in 2013 as a strength and conditioning intern with the University of Alabama. While at Alabama, Cotton worked with football, baseball and rowing. He also gained experience working as a strength and conditioning coach at Robert E. Lee High in Montgomery, Ala.

Cotton holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Alabama State where he was a four-year letterman on the football team. The defensive lineman was selected as a team captain in 2011 and earned second team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honors. He was also a member of the Dean’s List from January 2011 through 2013.
