Jon Silver is involved with all facets of the LSU Women’s Basketball program as director of basketball operations. Silver, who is in his fourth season with the Lady Tigers, coordinates practice and game scheduling, team travel, fundraising, equipment, the student-manager program, community service initiatives. Silver also serves as the program’s liaison to various other areas within the athletic department and throughout the community.

Silver has executed the non-conference game scheduling since Coach Caldwell and her staff arrived in Baton Rouge. LSU’s 2013-14 overall schedule was rated the nation’s toughest by the NCAA as the Lady Tigers played 28 of their 34 games against RPI Top 100 opponents. The non-conference portion of the schedule ranked #2 in the nation. Over the last three seasons, LSU has faced a Top 20 schedule each year.

The Lady Tigers have also been active in the community in large part to Silver’s efforts. In 2013-2014, the Lady Tigers led all LSU athletic teams on campus with an average of 23 community service hours per player. The program remains active in many community service initiatives and works with many groups such as the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, United Way, Charlie’s Place, Healing Place, the Gardere Arts Initiative, Woman’s Hospital, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital and more. Silver also handles all scheduling for Coach Nikki Caldwell’s appearances.

Silver also helped organize the Lady Tigers’ 2013 foreign tour. The team played four games over an 11-day stretch and made stops in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Alicante. Additionally, Silver helped rebrand the Lady Tiger booster club and currently oversees operation and fundraising efforts for Lady Tiger Elite. He has developed the Lady Tiger Elite Bowling Classic, Lady Tiger Elite 5K Run/Walk, Lady Tiger Elite Poker Run and also assists Coach Perotti with the Lady Tiger Elite Golf Classic. The program has raised nearly $50,000 from the group’s bowling events alone.

In the summer of 2012, Silver was activated as a full-time assistant coach while simultaneously serving in the capacities of director of operations, interim director of video operations and interim camp director. In July 2014, Silver assisted in the organization of the first LSU Head Coaches’ Summit and acted as recording secretary for the group.

Silver, 27, joined the LSU staff after serving dual roles at UCLA as video coordinator and staff associate.

During the 2010-11 season, Silver oversaw all video-related operations for UCLA. He handled all film exchange, pre-game and post-game film breakdowns, live capturing of games, weekly highlight tapes. As the staff associate, Silver organized the coaching staff’s recruiting efforts, sending and receiving submissions on a daily basis. He also worked closely with several other offices within the athletic department while assisting director of basketball operations, Pam Walker, with the day-to-day management of the program.

Silver graduated from UCLA in 2009 with degrees in History and Political Science and Phi Beta Kappa honors. As an undergraduate, he spent three seasons as a practice player for UCLA, including one season as head manager and scout team captain.

Prior to returning to UCLA, Silver was the head coach and director of basketball operations at Camp Cedar in Casco, Maine.

Silver has also previously served as the feature literary department coordinator at The Gersh Agency in Beverly Hills, California. At Gersh, Silver was responsible for maintaining the agency’s extensive list of potential projects for its writer and director clients and he was in charge of assigning and distributing potential client material.

Silver is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration from LSU. He is also in his third year of service on LSU’s Staff Senate with his term expiring in June, 2015.
