Chante' Powers Season 2024-25
Chante’ Powers (formerly Crutchfield) is in her third year with LSU Women’s Basketball as the Assistant Director for Women’s Basketball Operations/Recruiting.
In addition to assisting in recruiting, Powers works closely with the student-athletes to develop their overall wellness and mental preparation off the court. Affectionately known as “Auntie Chante’” to the student-athletes, Powers effectively balances the roles of mentor and an accountability voice. Her background in secondary education serves her well as she contributes to the student-athletes’ planning efforts to achieve academic success. In addition, Powers aids the on-court coaches through her meticulous preparation of game film and scouting reports.
Powers reunited with head coach Kim Mulkey in 2021, who she worked for as a graduate assistant at Baylor from 2000-02, helping to lay the foundation for the national championship success Mulkey experienced at Baylor.
Just as she did at Baylor, Powers played an integral role in laying the foundation for a championship program, assisting behind the scenes in scouting and helping the Tigers win their first national championship in 2023.
After she completed her graduate assistant coach position at Baylor, Powers went on to serve as the Director of Operations for the Houston Comets organization of the WNBA from 2002-2005.
Powers most recently finished a six-year stint as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Southeast Missouri State in the Ohio Valley Conference. Her recruiting with the Redhawks was a key in leading them to their first conference championship and first NCAA Tournament bid in 13 years. She was hired as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas State in June 2021 before joining the LSU Women’s Basketball staff.
Prior to her arrival at Southeast Missouri, Powers was the head coach at Crowley High School (2014-15), where she led her team to a 23-8 record and to its first District Championship in seven seasons and first playoff win in 10 years.
Powers has seven years of head coaching experience at the high school level. She has worked at several elite Texas prep schools, including Brenham, William B. Travis, and Waco University High.
Her head coaching career began at William B. Travis High School, where she helped the Rebels to an overall 62-54 record, three consecutive playoff appearances and their first 20-win season in 15 years. She was named Coach of the Year twice.
At Brenham, Powers compiled an overall record of 55-15. She guided the program to its first District Championship in nine years and back-to-back District Titles for the first time in 12 seasons. Those teams produced two District Most Valuable Players, one Offensive MVP, two Defensive MVPs, one Newcomer of the Year, one Most Improved Player, 14 All-District selections, nine Academic All-District honorees, four All-Brazos Valley, three All-State and three All-Region picks, and one District 18-4A Coach of the Year accolade.
Throughout her coaching career, Powers has recruited and guided many successful women’s basketball players, including Teaira McCowan at Brenham. McCowan went on to play for the USA U18 National Team that won gold, before being drafted No. 3 overall in the 2019 WNBA Draft following a standout career at Mississippi State University.
Powers, a native of Waco, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration-Finance from the University of Texas-Arlington (2000) before earning a Master’s in Sport Administration at Baylor (2002).
Powers was married to Patrick Powers Sr. in the summer of 2024.
